The seminar on “Succession & Estate Planning through Wills and Trusts” took place on January 22, 2026, at the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) in Ahmedabad, jointly organized by GCCI’s Direct Tax Taskforce and JITO Ahmedabad Chapter. Keynote speaker CA Dr. Anup P. Shah, a leading expert in succession and estate planning, dispelled key myths, stressing that a will always supersedes nomination in succession for assets like real estate, stocks and mutual funds—countering the widespread belief that nominations are final.

He highlighted the urgent need for structured planning to avoid disputes, covering recent legal amendments to wills and probate, HUF rights for married daughters, trusts’ benefits over wills such as ring-fencing liabilities and family business protection, suitable assets for trusts, and NRI beneficiary strategies for Indian properties including tax implications. Notable attendees included GCCI President Shri Sandeep Engineer, Vice President Shri Apurva Shah, JITO Ahmedabad Chairman Shri Rajeev Chhajer and Chief Secretary CA Dr. Jainik Vakil, Convener Shri Vidhan Surana, Economic Empowerment Mentor Shri Pravesh Mehta and Shri Hasmukh Gadhecha along with other business leaders. Organizers praised the session for its practical value in ensuring smooth inheritance and preventing complications. More than 200 attended this event.
